I Can Has Immune System?*

Seriously, this is getting beyond boring.

I'm Airborning, I'm decaf-green-tea-ing, I'm sleeping as much as I can and still earn my paycheck, I'm hot-bath-ing and forcing fluids and eating healthy foods. And I'm sick again.

Craptastic.

(* With apologies to the LOLCats.)

Hi Ruth,
I just found your blogs and I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed reading through them. I also want to thank you for all you are doing to teach others about PKD and to raise money for the PKD foundation. You are really an inspiration!

My 18-year-old daughter was diagnosed with PKD almost a year ago (during an MRI for an unrelated problem), and then my 49-year-old husband was diagnosed several months later. I hadn't even heard of PKD before then!

Fortunately, my husband was able to get into the Tolvaptan study and has been taking the drug since November. I pray that this stuff works as well in humans as it did in mice!

Anyway, I hope that your cold is gone and that you are feeling much better. Thanks again for sharing your story...it really helps to know we are not alone.
Sincerely,
Marlene

Marlene, it's great to hear from you. I can only imagine how disorienting it's been for you and your family to be dealing with all of the PKD news at once. I assume your husband is doing fairly well, if he was just diagnosed? I don't know a lot about the Tolvaptan study, but I am confident that as funding improves, there will be a viable "cure" on the market before either of our children head into kidney failure.

(Incidentally, I was diagnosed at about the same age as your daughter, and also by "mistake." Very common occurence with PKD.)

Best wishes to you all, and please feel free to comment and/or email as much as you like! : )
