The End Is Nigh



The most depressing part isn't that an Olive Garden has opened in the strip mall office complex where I work.

The most depressing part isn't that Olive Garden does not list full nutritional information for their menu on their website -- only for their so-called "Garden Fare" selections (cappellini pomodoro for 840 calories and 17 grams of fat, anyone?).

The most depressing part isn't that, even for the "Garden Fare" selections, the sodium counts are conspicuously omitted from the nutrition guide.

The most depressing part is that customers are waiting up to 2 1/2 hours for a table. At OLIVE FROKING GARDEN.

Kill me now.

I think I passed this last night after I dropped my friend off. I was all, "gross." Then I looked across the street and saw Outback and also threw up a little in my mouth.

Ugh.

I find it shocking that people would line up for two and half hours to eat ANYWHERE, but at Olive Garden...ya gotta wonder.

On Route 1, in Edison, NJ, a place near wonderful restaurants of all kinds, I used to pass an Outback with lines of people reaching farther than the eye could see. Some things don't seem to change.

As an area that is used to seeing mostly mom-n-pop places, the latest trend of chains (over the past 5 years or so, that is) has people all in a tizzy. It's not even good chain food. Now, I've been to Panera and Bertucci's for lunch, but OLIVE GARDEN? Their food is heavy, their pasta is slimy and they put too much freaking salt on their food!
