It's a Damn Good Thing I Got Some Sleep Last Weekend

Bad things tend to happen at home when Michael goes on a trip by himself. Most spectacularly, six years ago while he was celebrating his 40th birthday by driving from Texas to California, first the ceiling in our kitchen fell in (due to an undetected leak) and then my grandfather rather unexpectedly up and died. For about a week, I single-handedly juggled repairmen, far-distant funeral arrangements, work, cooking, and two kids still too young for all-day school. Good times.

Michael left for Los Angeles on Wednesday morning to take some high-level music industry meetings (which I'm not gonna jinx by talking about here). So far this week, I've had to lay off two three employees and on Monday will be announcing to the remaining staff that we'll be immediately instituting 30% 20% pay reductions across the boards.

I can't even begin to convey the level of dismay I'm feeling -- not only on a personal level, but on behalf of our staff. We have about 32 full-timers and several hundred part-timers, all of whom are going to be severely impacted by this move. I think it is a smart move for the company's health, and a completely necessary move, but it still sucks rancid rhino balls.

Now, ask me how I feel about the consultant that our investors are forcing us to work with starting next week.... Rhino balls would be a treat by comparison.

This was written Friday, but not posted until Monday, just to be safe.

Oh, dear, your ominous Friday posting made me figure it was not a happy time at work...that, and the newspapers, which seem to suggest any company that currently exists at all is on borrowed time. Hang in there. Pay cuts are dismal, job losses worse. See you soon, I hope.

So...since you wrote about everything breaking, and then I had to write about everything breaking...now your husband is out of town and everything goes wrong...well now my husband is out of town...Oy. I need some wood to knock on. ;-)

Rancid rhino balls. That's worse than big fat donkey balls.

Dood. My husband is out of town until Thursday. Usually the only thing that goes wrong when he is away is that I get manic and decide to paint something. The good news? I have a stomach virus and I'm certain the odor of paint fumes would have me worshiping the porcelain gods...

DG, I'm so tickled that you can spin a stomach virus into being GOOD news. ; )
