Oh, dear. Been there, done that. I finally put french drains in the basement last year and it's SOOOOO nice not to worry about floods anymore, especially after the 6 weeks of rain we had here.
A wet/dry shop vac with a pump was a life saver. I've got one I don't need any more...
A wet/dry vac is a time and energy saver. My sump pump went out twice after we moved into our house. The first time, we bailed it out by hand with buckets. The second time we had the wet/dry vac and it helped a lot. And a good dehumidifer after all the water is gone keeps the mold and mildew away, too.
