Sweet Release; or Carpe Blackhead

Quin (now age 12) has had a huge, prominent blackhead on his nose for years. I'm not exaggerating or being hyperbolic, it's been there for like 3 entire frockin' years (he seems to have inherited his father's large-ish pores). I've tried multiple times to get rid of it, but it's one of those deep-in-there, unreachable blackheads, and no matter how assiduously we steamed his pores or how many different skin products I purchased, there was just no getting at it. (And we are not EVEN going to discuss the number of times my mother, who is possibly even a bigger worry-wart than I, has asked me whether I'd tried this or that or the other thing to get rid of it. Seriously.)

I was actually contemplating taking him (a TWELVE YEAR OLD) to a dermatologist (or even to get a frocking facial). But! When I picked the kids up last night after work, the area around the blackhead was inflamed and red and swollen in a way I'd never seen before, and I seized the moment. Within 10 seconds of his emerging from his nightly shower I snatched him unceremoniously and squeezed the mofo. Poof. Gone.

To say that Quin was put out with me would perhaps be soft-pedalling ever-so-slightly; the site oozed and pussed and was generally fascinatingly unattractive for several minutes. I, of course, wanted to get rid of as much of the gunk as possible while I had the chance, and poked and prodded him with tissues most unmercifully. By the end of the torture evening, there was no more raised area around the site, giving me great hope that we well and truly got the bugger cleaned out. I can't wait to see what it looks like tonight.

Now, can anyone recommend a good dermatologist in the Delaware Valley region? Because I don't think I'm ever going to be able to get away with this trick ever again...

Wow! Of course, if your method works I'm sure he'll be grateful to you...eventually.

I saw your comment over at Breed 'Em and Weep. You've caught my attention -- my husband and most of his family on his mom's side has PKD. You're fundraising results are awesome!

Lynn Klein at Lankenau is great. Unfortunately, she no longer accepts my insurance, so now I have a loser derm.
